about
I have been a fan of adventure games since I first played Space Quest III on a friends computer. I later moved on and began playing other classics of the genre, such as Maniac Mansion and Sam & Max, and when I first began to lurk about on the internet, I looked for these games and ways to make games like them.
My search lead me to AGI Studio, a group of fans who had made tools to make games in the style of the old Sierra classics. I downloaded and played about with the tool, trying to make something of it, but found it confusing, and with lack of support, I didn't get far in doing anything with it. Moving on, I found SCI Studio made by Brian Provinciano.
This program I saw a large community for it, and people were making games. But I started making a game with it, and found that the system wasn't as good as I hoped it to be, and that the SCIVGA games that I knew like Space Quest IV were still not possible when it came to the system. A fateful post by someone named Darth Mandarb on the AGI boards turned me to the tool I used to make my games, and the tool I still use to make them... AGS.
AGS stands for Adventure Game Studio, and it was programmed by Chris Jones. The community was massive already when I found it, and I intergrated into it quickly, making friends, making enemies, and so forth. I began fiddling around with the program, and during a lunch break at TAFE where I was studying to become a Web Developer, I created what would be my frist game. Brad Bradson I: Key Quest.
To call it a game is a stretch of one's imagination, but it garnered enough comments from the community, and people wanted to actually see what I was capable of. I went on to make the other games that are listed on the site, Lifeboat, Spartacus and Pennis over the course of two years, each one more advanced than the last.
I began creating a sequel to Brad Bradson, but it was sadly never released bar for a demo that showed the first few rooms, and the art style which was a psuedo-AGI style. I had lost the original source code for the game a few years ago now, along with the source code and graphics for every game I had made up to that point, and was the major reason that this site has gone without an update for so long... that along with the fact I also lost the source code to another game that I had only announced in a few places. A Doctor Who fan game, that would of been the first of it's kind, except when I lost the code, someone else released a game set during the Tom Baker era.
Earlier this year (2008), I became the father of twin boys, and after a short period of time... I found the cd on which I had burnt everything. The only game I do not have the source code to is the original Brad Bradson. I was enthused and began making plans to make a new game. I decided that I would make a sequel to Pennis, as that was the most technically challenging game I had made thus far, and I wanted to push the game further than what I originally did. Over 7 months later, I am almost finished with the game, and am on the way to releasing it in a short time. I've been a bit distracted recently, having only recently got a new computer (after 8 years with a P2-350Mhz pc with 128Mb RAM), and finally getting the net back on, where i'm catching up with every bit of news i've missed.
So... it is almost to the end of 2008. The next game to come out is Pennis... then we'll see. ;)
